Safe Routes to School

Hackney projects

Hammersmith & Fulham projects

SAFE ROUTES TO SCHOOL (SRTS) - Groundwork's Single Regeneration Budget (SRB5) pilot-programme in London.

Delivered by Groundwork West London (Hammersmith & Fulham) and Groundwork Hackney - our aim is to improve the safety of the routes taken to school by involving and educating communities. The work is all locally developed and is resulting in research that will help spread good practice.

In London we have higher 'youth accident' statistics than in other areas - in Hackney in particular 14.7% of all road accidents involve children. At schools in Hackney & Hammersmith & Fulham up to 80% of the children already walk to school, the national average being two-thirds, so the problems are less of car-usage and more of road-safety.
