Car Usage

Back to Project Zone home page
junkedcars2:

Many transport campaigners are accused, often wrongly, of being anti-car and insisting that people give up their cars completely and take to buses, their bicycles or their feet regardless of distance or the undisputed convenience of the car. As many parents and carers involved in the school-run are female, measures such as this would be deemed as discriminating against women but it can be argued that the fascination with the school-run congestion is because it delays and frustrates the male commuter.

Car-borne commuting in London is still less than 15% of the cars on the road.

Most people don't have access to cars and there is simply not enough room to store and drive every car that it is possible to sell to people in London. Groundwork's work in promoting safe routes to school is the same as many others involved in the same work and is aimed at increasing choice and helping people to make informed choice. This choice can lead to: health benefits due to increased exercise and improved neighbourhoods due to less traffic and noise.
