Upper Clapton Mural Project

The mural was created by children from three Hackney schools working with Kevin Harrison a local artist. As part of a joint venture between Groundwork Hackneys SRB 5 (single regeneration budget) Safe Routes to School Programme and Hackney Council's Clapton Schools project, the derelict area on the corner of Mount Pleasant Lane and Upper Clapton Road (formerly used for dumping) was identifiied by young people as a site that they wanted to see improved.
Groundwork Hackney contracted Kevin Harrison to work with pupils from Skinners Middle School, Southwold Junior School and Harrington Hill Junior School to produce a mural and to decorate it. The mural was themed around sustainable transport, buses, balloons and scooters. The pieces are also looking to the future with electric cars, magic carpets, and teleportation machines - why not?
