Woodberry Down Junior school Year 5 ( two classes ) SRTS ideas:
Brief To produce a cross curricular IT based resource to work out the physical improvements required around the school.
All work produced must be produced / recorded in a digital form to be placed upon the safe routes to school pages within Groundwork hackneys website ground-level.
A Pollution model of hackney has already been commissioned this should be viewed as a separate yet complementary element to the project.
The planned sessions will run over the 14 weeks of the Autumn term 2000 and will be divided into two sections.
Section 1 Class room teachers (with support from Groundwork Hackney ) · Surveying and recording data. ( Will be done prior to sessions, but will need guidance / enhancing) Including Vehicle Counts, Noise pollution measurements, speed of vehicles and basic map work.
Section 2 Hackney Building Exploratory · Historical maps of Hackney ,change in road layout / land use over time, street history, Why did Woodberry down develop here. · Layers of transport ( i.e. Victoria line under 7 sisters) · Mapping of Routes to school using GIS in order to cite places where physical improvements could be made. · 3D modelling virtual and actual (Specific request from school) · GPS location
On going ( After Christmas ) Groundwork · School survey work · Filming / Mini-digi-cam routes to school · Sustainable transport message. Whole school · Cycle training · Pedestrian safety training. · Links to other schools, organisations outside school, international · Pollution and health · Stranger danger · Road safety
Delivery style · Where possible divided group study with feedback / rotation. · All childrens work must be recorded digitally
Design sessions for section 2 of this plan for joint delivery by Groundwork staff and class teachers.
