Safe Routes projects in Hackney

Back to project home page
projexplorat1thumb: Healthy Schools Safe Schools - looking at the health benefits of safe routes to school programmes and the importance of safe journeys to school.
projfixbikethumb: School bike web link - linking schools to bike shops for cycle-equipment and DIY advice. Linking safe routes to schools via the internet, opening up forums for discussion and developing resources for the website.
manorpostthumb: Advertising campaign - a competition to design posters to promote safe routes and alternative forms of transport. These were then advertised on hoardings and bus shelters throughout Hackney.
projroadthumb: From Home Zone to School- improving routes between school and home through community consultation. Reduced traffic volumes and lower traffic speeds feel more civilised, healthier and less prone to crime.
projhandonmodelthumb: Multimedia - the compilation of a website and the opening of a forum for children’s discussion on road safety with the help of the Hackney Building Exploratory.
Changing travel behaviour is about changing hearts and minds not just providing safer routes, improved bus services and providing new bike-sheds, the process is often more important than the product. This pilot-scheme is run in partnership with Groundwork West London and is being monitored by academic institutions, both for health benefits and for effective practice.
